ยง  252.  Maintenance  of  bridge.  When  a toll bridge shall have been
  acquired by the state under the provisions of this article it  shall  be
  maintained  as  a  free bridge and the expense thereof shall be a charge
  upon the town or towns or city or cities within which  it  is  situated.
  Upon the acquisition of any toll bridge as provided in this article, the
  board  or  boards of supervisors of the county or counties in which said
  toll bridge is located shall upon notice of such  acquisition  from  the
  comptroller,  accept  and  maintain  the  same  as a part of the highway
  system of said county or counties and such acceptance shall be deemed to
  have been formerly taken at the  expiration  of  twenty  days  from  the
  notice of said acquisition by the state comptroller.
