(a) Payment of reasonable transportation expensesUpon request of a Senator, amounts in the appropriation account “Miscellaneous Items” within the contingent fund of the Senate shall be available to pay the reasonable expenses of sending or transporting the official records and papers of the Senator from the District of Columbia to any location designated by such Senator in the State represented by the Senator.
(b) Sending and transportationThe Sergeant at Arms and Doorkeeper of the Senate shall provide for the most economical means of sending or transporting the official records and papers under this section while ensuring the orderly and timely delivery of the records and papers to the location specified by the Senator.
(c) OversightThe Committee on Rules and Administration shall have the authority to issue rules and regulations to carry out the provisions of this section.
(d) Official records definedIn this section, the term “official records and papers” means books, records, papers, and official files which could be sent as franked mail.
(e) Effective dateThis section shall apply with respect to fiscal year 2005 and each succeeding fiscal year.
