34-20E-2. Prescription drug monitoring program to be established.
The board shall establish and maintain a prescription drug monitoring program to monitor the prescribing and dispensing of all controlled substances. The program shall utilize a central repository, to which each dispenser shall submit, by electronic means, information regarding each prescription dispensed for a controlled substance. The information submitted for each prescription shall include specifically identified data elements adopted by the board and contained in the 2011 version of the electronic reporting standard for prescription monitoring programs, version 4.2 of the American Society for Automation in Pharmacy.
