§ 5-54-1. Declaration of policy.
(a) The general assembly intends to establish by this chapter a framework for a category of health personnel to be known as the physician assistant.
(b) The purpose of this chapter is to provide for an adequate supply of qualified medical providers to meet the needs of the citizens of Rhode Island and protect the public safety by establishing criteria for licensure and regulation of physician assistants.
(c) Nothing in this chapter shall be construed to repeal or supersede existing laws relating to other paramedical professions or services.
