(a) General rule.--The secretary may deputize any person to act as an officer and agent of the Commonwealth in effecting the return of any person who has violated the terms and conditions of parole or probation as granted by the Commonwealth. In any matter relating to the return of such person, an agent so deputized has all the powers of a police officer of this Commonwealth.
(b) Evidence of deputization.--A deputization under this section must be in writing and a person authorized to act as an agent of the Commonwealth under that authority shall carry formal evidence of the deputization and shall produce it on demand.
(c) Interstate contracts.--
(1) The secretary or a designee may, subject to the approval of the Auditor General, enter into contracts with similar officials of any other state for the purpose of sharing an equitable portion of the cost of effecting the return of any person who has violated the terms and conditions of parole or probation as granted by the Commonwealth.
(2) All interstate contracts entered into prior to the effective date of this paragraph are ratified and shall continue in effect according to their respective terms.
