To carry out the provisions of the Children's Trust Fund Act, the department and the children's trust fund may accept any federal matching funds or grants for children's projects and programs or next generation fund projects and programs. The department may accept donations and bequests from private sources for deposit in the children's trust fund or the next generation fund, as applicable. The board shall distribute these funds as specified by the granting entity or donor.

The 2013 amendment, effective June 14, 2013, authorized the children's trust fund to accept federal matching funds and grants; authorized the use of funds for children's projects; in the first sentence, after "the department", added "and the children's trust fund", after "children's projects", added "and programs", and after "next generation fund projects", added "and programs"; and added the last sentence.
The 2005 amendment, effective June 17, 2005, permitted the children, youth and families department to accept federal matching funds or grants for next generation fund projects and to accept donations and bequests for deposit into the next generation fund.
