The chief, or other person acting in such capacity, of the fire department shall be the president of the board of trustees, and at the first meeting after each election as provided hereinabove, the board of trustees shall elect a secretary who shall perform such duties as may be assigned by the board of trustees and as may be set forth in the rules and bylaws of the trustees. The board of trustees may elect such other officers as it deems necessary or desirable for the conduct of its business.
