Section 45-51A-31.84 - Planning Commission - Executive Salary; Inspection of Records; Employees; Contracting for Services; Expenditures.

The city planning commission provided for by this subpart shall appoint an executive secretary who shall be required to give bond in the penal sum of ten thousand dollars ($10,000) for the faithful performance of his or her duties, and the premium on the bond shall be paid by the city. All recommendations made by the secretary to the planning commission must be made in writing and shall constitute public records. The secretary shall keep the record of all proceedings of the commission and shall have custody of the same. Such records shall be open to public inspection at all reasonable times. The commission may also appoint such other employees as it may deem necessary for its work and the appointment, promotion, demotion, and removal of the secretary and all other employees of the commission shall be subject to the same provisions of law as govern other corresponding civil employees of the municipality. The commission may also contract with city planners, engineers, architects, and other consultants for such services as it may require. The expenditures of the commission, exclusive of gifts, shall be within the amount appropriated for the purpose by the city council, commission, or like legislative body of the city; and all contracts entered into by the commission under this section shall be in writing and be matters of public record.
