ARTICLE 3 - Activities
Section 14036.1.

14036.1. As part of its ongoing marketing activities to increase the utilization and performance of rail and bus services operated pursuant to this article, the department may seek to increase awareness of these services on the part of students attending public and private colleges and universities located in cities served by these trains and feeder buses. The department, in cooperation with public college and university systems, may develop suitable materials for regular distribution to students at the beginning of academic terms. The department may also work with the National Railroad Passenger Corporation (Amtrak) to implement student multiride discount ticketing programs designed for home to college trips, similar to programs already implemented in other states by Amtrak and the state agency responsible for intercity rail passenger service.

The Legislature finds that college students, while potentially a natural market for these public transportation services, are frequently unaware of these services. Marketing activities should recognize the highly transient nature of college students and the need to continuously publicize available services using inexpensive media where appropriate.

The department shall report on its marketing activities, including activities conducted pursuant to this section, in the rail passenger development plan prepared pursuant to Section 14036.
