Chapter 10, Article 13A NMSA 1978 may be cited as the "Public Employees Retirement Reciprocity Act".

Purpose of act. — The [Public Employees] Retirement Reciprocity Act was enacted to extend to public employees the benefit of increased retirement credit irrespective of the particular state retirement system the individual may have been employed under, and to permit an individual to receive greater retirement advantages than would otherwise be possible under either of the single state retirement systems. 1964 Op. To be liberally construed. — The [Public Employees] Retirement Reciprocity Act (former Sections 10-13-1 to 10-13-5 NMSA 1978) was remedial in nature and was to be liberally interpreted in order to best carry out the announced purposes of the act. 1964 Op. Att'y Gen. No. 64-118.
Where credit extended. — The [Public Employees] Retirement Reciprocity Act (former Sections 10-13-1 to 10-13-5 NMSA 1978) was adopted to extend reciprocal retirement credit to individuals who have been employed under both the state public educational system and state public employment. 1964 Op.
